spamREF FAQs - What happens when I click 'Is SPAM' on the toolbar? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
The 'Is SPAM' button on the spamREF Outlook Toolbar v2 scans the highlighted emails for Top Level Domains (TLDs) that exist in the email but do not exist in the list that is held in the Windows Registry that is used for day to day scanning. The Windows Registry list is deliberately kept as short as possible to make the scanning process as fast as possible. Because of this approach spamREF will not catch SPAM emails using it's SURBLs feature that are not in the shorter Registry list. If, on clicking the 'Is SPAM' button, a TLD that is not in the Registry is found, a confirmation dialogue is displayed before it is added to the Windows Registry. Due to the nature of TLDs and the possible content of the SPAM email you may be asked if you want to add a TLD that is a valid TLD from the email but is not actually one that the email is targeting. In this event it is recommended that you click 'No' when asked if you want to add the TLD. If you are unsure then click yes to be safe. Clicking 'Is SPAM' does not try an inteligently look at the email content and second guess what makes it SPAM to you. Given the language considerations alone that would be impossible. To tailor you spamREF capability for specific words or phrases in an email then you want to use the BodyItem feature. |
