spamREF FAQs - How do I install the spamREF Toolbar?

This FAQ will take you through the simple install process for spamREF.

  1. Download the setup files from here. Either save it or run it from its current location.
  2. Double click spamREF Setup.exe, if you have saved it, or the installation will start automatically. Initially you will be presented with questions about accepting the EULA for Microsoft VSTO and installing the Outlook PIAs. These components are mandatory so read and accept the VSTO EULA and agree to install the Outlook PIAs.

Running Outlook with spamREF for the first time

When you run Outlook for the first time after installing spamREF you will be asked to specify where you would like SPAM emails to be moved to. While the 'Deleted Items' folder would make sense, it is recommended that you use a different folder and check that folder regularly in the first days while you configure spamREF to work in your particular style.

You will be presented with the spamREF Preferences screen to select the folder.
spamREF Preferences SPAM Folder Tab
Click the 'Set' button to navigate through your Outlook folder hierarchy and select the folder in which you wish to store SPAM emails.

You can select an existing folder, Junk E-mail is a good one, or create your own using the 'Create New Folder' button. Once done click the 'Set' button and the 'Done' button on the main 'Preferences' screen.

That's it! spamREF is now installed and working. Now would be a good time to review how spamREF works and understand what the various options mean and how you can use them.
